The end of season Mixed Doubles Handicap Cup Competition was held on Sunday 23rd March. 12 couples participated in two leagues of 6 playing each other on a round robin basis

The top 4 couples from each group then went through to a knockout stage, and after a number of close and exciting matches Trevor Watson and Jayne Liddell (9 handicap) met Graeme Butcher and Maggie Zhang (5) in the final

It was a close game for long periods and with 2 minutes to go the score was locked at 8-8, but then a series of winning rallies by Graeme and Maggie saw Trevor and Jayne finally go down 14-8. There were some great rallies throughout and both pairs played some great games over the course of the morning

There were prizes for all the semi finalists and finalists, and these were presented by Keith Grange BCAc our League President

The Winter League had finished the previous week and this has been played on a team handicap format based on the previous season’s performance. This resulted in many more closer matches, although there were times when the heavily handicapped teams found the gap in points a challenge too far

However, the League went right down to the last 2 games of the season and after just pipping three other teams by one win Team Nomads won the League by virtue of a 6 point win in their last match
