New Pickleball Rules for 2025

Whilst not wanting to make a simple game complicated, there are a few small adjustments to the rules of the game for 2025

  1. The volley has been previously deemed to start with the backswing, continue to contact with the ball and end with the follow through. Now the backswing is no longer part of the shot. The volley commences on contact with the ball, so for example if the padel hits the floor in the kitchen and then makes contact with the ball, the shot is legal. All other normal volley rules still apply
  2. The toss serve can now take place with the ball held in the hand or with the ball resting on the padel, but spin must not be added to the ball in either method
  3. Verbal indication can now be used to signify if the receiver of the serve is not ready to play, and the serve shall be retaken without penalty
  4. When calling a fault against an opponent both members of the team claiming the fault must see the infringement and call it
  5. Spectators are not allowed to make any calls relating to a match in progress. The team receiving the ball are the only ones who can call a ball out

Although these changes may appear minor, the written word can sometimes generate confusion, so please ask for clarity if you are not sure of the new definition
