This was held on Sunday 9th December and was contested by 20 couples who each received a handicap score based on their League scores over the last 10 weeks. There were 4 groups of five pairs playing on a ’round robin’ basis with the top two from each group progressing through to the knockout stages. 

The games were generally of a very good standard and the handicaps led to some really tight scores – along with the odd unexpected result. By the semi final stage we had two high handicappers in one match and two low ones in the other with eventually John Long/Jackie Woodcock (0) and Colin Sladden/Sue Starkey (9) progressing to the final

Colin and Sue managed to keep their handicap advantage for the early part of the match but then John and Jackie went on a run of points to take the score from 4-12 to 12-12 and it looked like they had the momentum to go on to victory. However, a tantalising net cord gave their serve away and Colin and Sue went on to secure the points required to gain a 15-13 victory

It was a great final to watch and epitomised what a Handicap Competition is all about. Well played guys, and also to the other 36 players involved
