A review of our journey so far

A review of our journey so far and first winter season

It all started with a watsapp message whilst holidaying abroad last February asking me to speak with Tim about setting a League up. It then took us 4 months to find a suitable location at Fulford (that has now become our permanent home), and try to gauge the interest of enough teams to take part

By June we were having our first events – two taster sessions to test if the format being thought of would work, and seeing if we could sustain enough interest to make a League viable. By July we had the buy in of 8 clubs who paid their fees in advance of playing so that we could reserve the facility, and on 29th September the first matches were played

Since then, we have seen 94 members participate for the clubs and in the cup competition, had over 350 attendances, formed a successful committee, become financially self sufficient and built a website to keep everyone up to speed with events

David Lloyd were the inaugural winners of the League and Colin Sladden and Sue Starkey were our first mixed doubles champions, and we are all prepared to go again with a winter programme that commences on 5th January

None of this could have happened without the enthusiasm and support of all those that have come along, played, socialised and helped out, so it’s a big thank you and well done from myself to you all
